A peaceful, remote circular walk around the Usk Reservoir on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons. This is one of the quietest and most serene routes in the National Park — perfect for walkers seeking big skies, calm water, forest edges, and a true sense of escape.
The Usk Reservoir Circular is a gentle, scenic loop following forest tracks and shoreline paths around the reservoir. With minimal elevation and wide, easy trails, it's ideal for families, cyclists, dog walkers, and anyone wanting a tranquil day out in nature.
Start at the main car park overlooking the water. The views across the reservoir are wide and open, with the Carmarthen Fans rising in the distance.
Follow the clear path along the reservoir edge. This section offers beautiful reflections and occasional wildlife sightings — red kites, buzzards, and waterfowl.
The route enters a stretch of conifer woodland. The wide forest road is easy underfoot and peaceful, with glimpses of the water through the trees.
As the path curves around the far end of the reservoir, the landscape opens up again. This is a great spot for photos and quiet breaks.
Continue along the shoreline and rejoin the main track leading back to the car park.
