Route description

Step by step

  1. 1

    Start at Pont ar Daf

    Cross the footbridge and follow the pitched path toward Corn Du. The climb is steady but steep.

  2. 2

    Corn Du (873m)

    Reach the broad summit plateau with dramatic views into Cwm Llwch. Continue along the ridge toward Pen y Fan.

  3. 3

    Pen y Fan (886m)

    The highest point in South Wales. A perfect spot for photos and a well-earned break.

  4. 4

    Descent to the Saddle

    Drop steeply down the path to the col between Pen y Fan and Cribyn.

  5. 5

    Cribyn (795m)

    A steep but rewarding climb. The view back toward Pen y Fan is one of the finest in the National Park.

  6. 6

    Fan y Big (719m)

    Continue along the ridge to Fan y Big, home of the famous Diving Board rock ledge.

  7. 7

    Return via the Roman Road

    Descend to the old Roman Road and follow the long, easy track back toward the start.
