A wide-open, panoramic walk across one of the Brecon Beacons' most accessible upland commons. With sweeping views of Pen y Fan, Corn Du, and the Central Beacons, this route is perfect for families, photographers, and anyone wanting a classic Brecon Beacons experience without a strenuous climb.
Mynydd Illtud Common is a gently undulating plateau near the National Park Visitor Centre (Libanus). It offers some of the best easy-access views in the entire National Park. The walk combines open moorland, wildlife-rich grassland, and big-sky scenery.
Start at the Visitor Centre, where you'll find parking, toilets, and a café. Head through the gate onto the open common.
Follow the well-worn path across the grassy plateau. The views of Pen y Fan and Corn Du dominate the skyline to the north.
Continue towards the centre of the common, where you'll find subtle Bronze Age remains, including burial mounds and ancient field systems.
Turn south to complete the loop back toward the Visitor Centre, enjoying wide views over the Usk Valley.
