A peaceful, scenic woodland loop following the Taf Fechan river near Pontsarn. This short route is ideal for families, casual walkers, and anyone wanting a gentle taste of the Brecon Beacons' natural beauty.
The Taf Fechan River Walk is a tranquil 2 km circular route set within ancient woodland and shaped by the fast-flowing Taf Fechan. With riverside paths, moss-covered rocks, and the dramatic Pontsarn Viaduct overhead, this walk blends nature, history, and easy accessibility.
Begin at the small car park beneath the impressive Pontsarn Viaduct, a towering stone structure that frames the start of the walk.
Follow the path upstream with the Taf Fechan river on your right. The trail winds through mixed woodland, offering several spots to get close to the water.
Continue along the riverside until the path rises gently into thicker woodland. The loop curves back through peaceful forest, with birdsong and filtered light through the canopy.
Rejoin the main track and follow it back toward the viaduct, completing the circular route.
